Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence or AI is the technology or the science and engineering used in making intelligent machines, computer programs that work in a smarter way as compared to humans.

The ability to create intelligent machines has fascinated humans since ancient times. Researchers are creating cutting edge technology that can mimic human thoughts and work in a far more efficient way. Well, AI is a combination of computer science and philosophy.

AI has come a long way from the old days. Now, we find the use of artificial intelligence everywhere. AI is utilised even in cricket matches, where it is used to see ‘leg before wicket’. Furthermore, it is used in the latest phones where there is face and fingerprint recognition. AI has made the impossible possible.

There are different approaches and methods that are being used in AI. There are two major methodologies which are bottom-up and top-down methods. The bottom-up theorists believe that AI is used to build electronic replicas similar to the human brain whereas top-down theorists believe in mimicking the human behaviour with computer programs.

AI is a never ending process as innovative thoughts can never stop. AI is the way to the future full of revolutionary processes and ideas.

The Touch of Death

Once upon a time there lived a demon named Brahmasur. The demon, a devotee of Lord Vishnu decided to pray to him as his ardent desire was to receive blessings from the great lord. Finally, after years of deep rumination, Lord Vishnu appeared before him and asked him to make a wish. Brahmasur said that he wanted a power that could turn everyone into ashes by merely touching them. So, the benevolent Lord granted his wish. Now the Brahmasur wanted to test the newly found power on Lord Vishnu. The mighty Lord got scared and started to run to save his life. In the middle of the pursuit, Brahmasur came across a beautiful girl named Mayavati. Awestruck by her beauty, the demon wished to marry her. But, Mayavati said that she was sure he would leave her, just like her previous husbands. When Brahmasur said he would never leave her, she asked him to take the oath by touching himself. The demon touched his throat and uttered that he would never leave her. Scarcely had he spoken the words and touched his throat when he turned into ashes. Lord Vishnu thanked Mayavati profusely for saving his life and thought to himself that one should think before they leap.

Rain

Rain! Rain! Rain!

A drop of joy for people,

A token of love for the Mother Earth.

The first few water drops,

And the refreshing smell of the soil,

Bring happiness all around,

And fills me up with joys which knows no bounds.

Rain! Rain! Rain!

I walk out with my raincoat on,

Splashing through the puddles,

I sail my paper boats for fun.

Watching the peacocks dancing in the rain,

Drove all my pain far away.

Bringing in laughter and gaiety in my life again.

The Lonely Traveler

I was all alone on the road,

Too lazy to travel,

But there lay a long, grey path,

Through which I had to reach at any cost.

It wasn’t easy to do it all alone,

But I was determined to tread on my own,

Solemnly I walked down the lane,

Looking at strangers who stood with eyes full of pain.

The sun went down,

Spreading darkness all around,

Yet I wasn’t near my destined point,

I had to move on though I did feel faint.

It wasn’t possible to turn back now,

So I moved on and on,

And now I’m here,

To the point of no return.

Nature

Oh Nature! Oh Nature!

All products you give us are natural

We make shelters that are man-made

The trees give us natural shade

All you give is natural and all we make is artificial

You give so many things like rubber and glue

Your clean water makes our Earth pretty and blue,

Thank you nature,thank you nature

For giving us things that will help us in future

We should see nature’s lovely view

From atop the mountains and plateaus too

In many countries like Switzerland and France

Your beauty has no bounds and often put us in trance

You give us a glimpse of heaven on earth

Can you do us a favour ?

Please stay as pretty like this forever…

A Field trip to NISER

Students get to connect between classroom learning and real-world learning when they go for educational trips. These visits provide valuable experience or important moments in learning to the students, that help them to deepen and enhance their knowledge acquired in classroom. It also exposes students to new experiences and help to stimulate their interest in different areas, irrespective of their prior interest.

Students of Class XI had an opportunity to visit the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), an institute affiliated to Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai. It is dedicated to graduate education and research and established with the aim of embedding scientific rigor within larger pedagogic practices in our country.

NISER houses both teaching and research labs of each of the schools like Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Students had a great time visiting these laboratories, where they were briefed on the various equipment and instruments used for experimentation.

Unleashing their Creativity

It is often found that students are gradually getting inclined towards uniformity as they grow. It is because they get few opportunities to express themselves. Unless they express their views, and opinions in a proper manner, they can never be able to achieve their unique potential.

Learning to showcase themselves will help the children to know who they really are, which helps to build their self-confidence, develop independent thinking, foster creativity and imagination as well as enable them to express their emotions like sadness, anger, happiness and excitement in a healthy way.

Creative writing competition aims to stimulate imaginative thinking both in teachers and students by exposing them to new materials and ideas. A creative writing competition was organised for the students of Class XI. Students were given ten different topics to choose from and express their thoughts and ideas in form of an article, story or poem.

Creativity defines our ability to be successful in whatever we undertake, and it is the only factor which differentiate us from robots. To help the children retain their ability and willingness to be creative, they need to be encouraged to let their imagination fly.

Poetry Writing

Poetry is a medium of expression of emotions. It helps one to understand how language and vocabulary can be used to express thoughts and ideas. It is a wonderful way to build phonemic awareness in children and enhance their vocabulary and writing skills.

To encourage the students with an affinity for writing poetry, a competition was conducted for students of Class IV and V. The theme for writing poetry for students of Class IV was ‘My Favourite Things’ and for Class V students, it was ‘My Teacher’.

Creating poetry makes a person insightful, fills him or her with joy and gives a sense of concrete accomplishment. People who loves writing poetry develops a penchant for understanding larger issues in life and feel more connected with people, places and nature. Writing poetry involves a lot of cognitive skills, and accelerates the emotional and intellectual growth of a child.

“Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.”Robert Frost

True Beauty

Had I not seen the horrors of the night,

Would I’ve enjoyed the gifts of the day?

Had I not accepted defeat,

Would I’ve won over success?

Had I not tasted hunger,

Would I’ve savoured every bite i swallowed?

Had I not died first,

Would I’ve seen the beauty of life?

Colours of Life

Far across the horizon

My homeland smiles back

Gives a green light

A signal to go ahead

It says, enjoy the moment.

Gusts of wind shake it

Just for a while,

The rainbow colours all around

Brings a glee, well deserved

At the end of the day

it matters, what choice you’ve made.

Good or bad, it is yours after all,

Appreciation or scorn.

Take it with a smile

Love it the way you like,

After all it’s your life.
